Connecting Farmers to Markets

A number of farmers in Kenya record losses every harvesting season due poor timing of harvest or poor of markets. Therefore a successful farmer needs a proper connection to markets where he/she can easily sell the produce at good prices.

Smallholder farmers in Kenya face considerable challenges that keep them locked in poverty. A lack of access to information, technical knowledge, markets and capital are among the chief obstacles preventing smallholder farmers from improving their productivity, increasing their incomes and strengthening food security.

MelaFarm helps farmers in Kenya to connect to local markets and also markets abroad. This helps to sustain and grow their business and improve employment opportunities for this critical segment of the Kenyan population. The program also aims to increase revenues for agribusinesses and agricultural value chain service providers.

Technology has a great potential to increase incomes for smallholder farmers. It is  an effective means of delivering agronomic information and market prices to farmers while also facilitating agricultural transactions.
