Farmers Training
In sub-Saharan Africa and Kenya in particular, 80% of the food supply comes from small scale farmers, but most of these farmers are producing only a fraction of their potential. Improving the productivity and success of smallholder farmers is imperative as we work to make agribusiness more profitable in Africa. Incremental increases in productivity would significantly directly improve food security in Kenya.
Smallholder farmers produce far below their potential yields, often due to poor farming practices, lack proper information and poor access to extension services. We are training in good agricultural practices to help farmers learn how to better manage the health of their land, effectively cultivate their crops, and increase their harvests. MelaFarm also trains farmers to invest in improved farm inputs and technology.
We help farmers build their skills by building networks within rural communities to provide training to farmers. This helps farmers learn about best practices, give them somewhere to turn when they have questions about their crops, and connect them to reputable buyers and suppliers. This training is critical in improving yields of smallholder farmers in Kenya.
Training delivers:
- Delivers agricultural best practices to farmers throughout Kenya. With this approach, MelaFarm delivers refined trainings at a low cost.
- Helping farmers get markets of their produce by giving them training on early market before planting.
- Builds leadership and negotiating power so that farmers have stronger links to value chain services thus increasing their profits.
